Google Maps J2ME Viewer

Immediate disclosure: I couldn't get this application to show me anything... but it may work for you (I'm using a 7280 on AT&T Wireless). Someone pulled together an application that runs on J2ME capable mobile phones that allows you to view Google Maps on your cell phone, it's called GMapViewer. You can read more about it here or download it with your J2ME capable cell phone / PDA here.

If you do happen to get it running on your BlackBerry, you should send an email to the author of the application so that he can update the compatability list.

Works on my BlackBerry (7230 / BES)

Certain versions of BB require a specific connection string to be appended to the end of each request to get it to use a WAP gateway and not the BES connection. So if you have no BES and he's using pure J2ME then you are going to run into non-portability issues to many of the BB models. I really bites because we a couple of different version of BB at my company and you have to make separate packages for each model even though you are using J2ME.

Doesn't work on my 7290. Same tunnel problem.

Where do you find more information on these connection strings?

There also a HelloWorld Map Browser made-for-Blackberry which lets you browse google maps.

Get it at www.freek.ca

I would be interested if somebody try this one: http://j2memap.landspurg.net . It's also a Java interface to GoogleMap, but contains some extra features like direction finding and more. But I would be especally interested if somebody have a GPS enabeld device, as it should take care of it... Note that I have also an issue with HTTP on the first request, so just press the selection button to get rid of it....

Best regards...
