I use my BlackBerry on a daily basis to manage a bunch of servers and web-based software applications; one of the byproducts of the management is that I sometimes get thousands (literally) of emails in a single burst, which means that my BlackBerry inbox is a pain in the you know what to manage. Today someone posted a little tip to the BlackBerry Users email list that will make my job (and hopefully your job) easier. If you want to delete all emails prior to a certain date or mark emails as 'opened' prior to a certain date, scroll through your email until you come to that date... and then select the date and click on it using the scroll wheel. You'll see two options: one that says "Mark Prior Opened" and one that says "Delete Prior", both of which I'm sure are self explanatory.
I just hope the reference to Mark Prior doesn't end up making this a baseball blog.

I've been looking through that menu for a "Delete Prior Opened" function, to delete all mail previous to a certain date that I've already read. Anyone find a shortcut for that?

If you scroll to the date and click on the date, not on any message, that should be the first two options you have.
BTW this is pure genius: I've been struggling with this for a week (over 1,000 messages!) and I had to swipe my blackberry in order to mass delete my e-mails...
Thank god you found out!

Man thanks. What an idiotic user interface that makes it so hard to find out about this function... Thanks a lot!

I tried to delete many e-mails at once using ajohnson's tip to get to the Delete Prior Opened option. I do not see that as an option. I have a model 7250.
I'm a new user. Another question I have is can I open Word documents on here?

you have to click on the header date of each email

this doesnèt really delete the messages. it only deletes them off of the handheld, but not off of the Blackberry Internet Service...
so the usefellness of it is quite limited IMO.

does anyone know how to keep your emails in outlook as un-read and the same time get them in blackberry?
The problem I have is that when my emails get sent to my blackberry, on my regular outlook they appear as read, but I wante them to appears ans un-read. I many times go back to my desk and want to revist or carefully reply to several of these emails, but it makes it harder to find them since they are marked ans unread
any ideas?
